Weekend Roundup, October 13, 2017 | Ethel Walker Play Day
The weekend of October 13, 2017 more than a dozen teams will rally to Play4TheCure in support of cancer research, including the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT who is hosting their annual Play4TheCure Play Day.
Introduced by Head Field Hockey Coach Mimi Duran who lost her father to cancer when she was 5 years old, the Play4TheCure Play day has been an Ethel Walker tradition for 5+ years. When her father passed, Coach Duran vowed to help raise awareness for cancer patients and their families. The Play Day allows all the members of the Simsbury community, as well as neighboring teams, to work together to support cancer research. Last year, the Ethel Walker Field Hockey team was able to raise nearly $6,000 for the cause. Below is a video the team created to thank everyone in their community for participating:
In 2015, Coach Duran was inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame heading into her 30th year of coaching. You can donate to the Ethel Walker Field Hockey Play Day efforts here: https://www.crowdrise.com/2017-ethel-walker-field-hockey-play-4-the-cure-playday
