5 Simple Ways to Make a Difference on World Cancer Day
Each year, individuals around the globe come together for a day of dedication in the fight against cancer. This day is February 4th—World Cancer Day. World Cancer Day is a global initiative dedicated to fighting cancer on all fronts. Over the past 20+ years, this international day has demonstrated one very important message: everyone has a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer and TOGETHER we can do it!
This message of unity has never been more evident as it is now, as we watch the world come together to fight COVID-19. And because of the risk the virus poses to cancer patients and the impact it’s had on cancer research funding, it’s never been more important to come together and unite to defeat cancer now.
What started as simply a vision of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) has become one of the largest international health campaigns. This year, is the final year of the UICC theme “I am & I will”. This theme aims to illustrate how each person’s actions, big or small, can make lasting, positive change. This call-to-action encourages everyone to pause and reflect about their strengths, ambitions, and what kind of impact they can make.
Consider these impactful actions, along NFCR, in celebration of World Cancer Day:
- Create a Play4TheCure or Arts4TheCure event, using your passion and talents for good
- Sign-up up as an NFCR Youth Ambassador to lead a generation for change
- Create a Rose Fund or Named Fund to memorialize your loved one
- Make a one-time or monthly donation in honor or in memory of a cancer warrior
- Follow NFCR on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn and share our mission

Use the “I am & I will” theme to tell us who you are and how you’ll make your difference on social media by tagging NFCR and using the hashtag, #WorldCancerDay.
Although globally we celebrate World Cancer Day on February 4, in reality, every day at NFCR is a day dedicated to fighting cancer. NFCR-funded researchers and scientists are making great progress in their pursuit to explore and defeat cancer.
