NFCR Looks Forward to the Action Driven from the 2024 World Cancer Congress
As a member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), a coalition of like-minded organizations creating change in the battle against cancer, we commend the UICC for its dynamic line-up of discussions we hope drive tangible outcomes for cancer patients globally.
The UICC is a member organization on a mission to unite and support the cancer community in its efforts to reduce the global cancer burden. Aligning with other organizations who want to see cancer eliminated is critical to NFCR’s approach to making cures possible for ALL types of cancer.
Every two years, the UICC hosts the World Cancer Congress event, uniting world leaders across the globe to ‘encourage effective knowledge transfer and best practices.’ This year’s event will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from September 17-19th, 2024, and facilitate discussions similar to the issues NFCR is working to address. These topics include:
Innovation in Cancer Prevention and Care
Through NFCR’s Circulating Tumor Cell Research Initiative, we are supporting Dr. Ling Huang at the Henry Ford Cancer Institute. His team’s work shows promise in developing new treatments that can be readily applied in clinics, helping doctors tailor therapeutic plans for individual patients, reduce adverse effects, and ultimately improve outcomes for patients. NFCR continues to spearhead groundbreaking research that will shape the future of cancer care and ultimately lead to a cancer-free world.
Patient-centered Care Across the Spectrum
NFCR’s approach to funding cancer research is helping patients by attacking the problem from all angles. Through our global network community, we support basic, translational, and clinical research with the goal of delivering better prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care options. Childhood Cancer – Bridging the Gap
While many treatments are administered for adolescent cancer patients, only five have been specifically developed and approved to treat pediatric cancers. By using treatments developed for adult patients, childhood patients have a more taxing journey and often experience long-term side effects. NFCR is working to address this unmet need by supporting early-stage research to create treatments explicitly designed with children in mind and accelerating the delivery to patients through our translational research initiative with AIM-HI.
Continuing Conversations
This event precedes our Global Summit and Award Ceremonies for Cancer Research & Entrepreneurship, where we intend to continue these critical discussions and further address how our community can advance progress toward the unmet needs of cancer patients. The Global Summit will feature sessions discussing New Frontiers for Cancer Research, including early detection and prevention, new approaches to cancer treatments, and much more. NFCR’s 2024 Global Summit and Award Ceremonies for Cancer Research & Entrepreneurship will occur on Friday, October 18th, in Washington, D.C., at the National Press Club.
