NFCR-Supported Dr. Rakesh Jain Selected as an Inaugural Fellow of the Asian American Academy of Science and Engineering

The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is proud to announce that Dr. Rakesh Jain, Director of the E.L. Steele Laboratory for Tumor Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital and a longtime NFCR-funded scientist, has been selected as an inaugural Fellow of the Asian American Academy of Science and Engineering (AAASE). This prestigious honor recognizes Dr. Jain’s groundbreaking contributions to cancer research and his dedication to advancing the role of Asian Americans in STEM disciplines.

Dr. Jain’s pioneering research on the tumor microenvironment (TME) and angiogenesis has significantly transformed modern cancer therapy. In 2022, he was awarded the Szent-Györgyi Prize for Progress in Cancer Research for his breakthrough discoveries on overcoming barriers posed by the TME – which includes blood vessels, immune cells, fibroblasts, and the extracellular matrix. His work has led to improved delivery and efficacy of anti-cancer medicines, ultimately reshaping the way cancer is treated. Dr. Jain’s achievements have earned him membership in all three U.S. National Academies – a rare and distinguished honor.

The AAASE Fellow Program celebrates scientists and engineers who have made extraordinary contributions to their fields while elevating the visibility and influence of Asian Americans in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The induction ceremony for the inaugural class of Fellows will take place from November 15 to 17 at the National Academy of Sciences Beckman Center in Irvine, California.

NFCR extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Jain for this well-deserved recognition, a testament to the transformative impact of his research on cancer therapy.
