Play4TheCure Partners With NECLAX
US Lacrosse pilot program gives 11 youth lacrosse programs in Connecticut a special way to support cancer research.
(BETHESDA, MD – May 19, 2015) Play4theCure, the National Foundation for Cancer Research’s sports fundraising campaign, is teaming up with the New England Coastal Lacrosse (NECLAX) to raise funds for cancer research.
Eleven lacrosse programs in Connecticut that make up NECLAX are dedicating games to “Play4TheCure,” where they will join with their opponents to raise money for cancer research. The new partnership is a pilot program for a national rollout throughout US Lacrosse next year. The campaign culminates with a final fundraising drive during the 2nd annual NECLAX Coastal Jam on June 7th and throughout the weekend of June 13-14, in Niantic, CT.
“As a Cancer scientist, I could not be more delighted to have our lacrosse organization join forces with US Lacrosse and our sponsors to support the National Foundation for Cancer Research through the Play4TheCure program,” said Greg Roberts, Ph.D., President of New England Coastal Lacrosse. One hundred percent of funds raised by Play4theCure go to support cancer researchers in the laboratory.
“Play4TheCure inspires young athletes and their teams to leverage their passion for sports to ‘Play4’ loved ones affected by cancer, and truly make a difference’ said David Bjork, VP of Development for the National Foundation for Cancer Research. “I am thrilled to be working with NECLAX and expanding Play4TheCure to the great game of lacrosse.”
With the help of Play4theCure and individual donors, NFCR has delivered over $320 million leading to many breakthroughs, including prevention strategies, earlier diagnosis and new anticancer drugs and therapies.
