Board Director
Ms. Barnhard currently serves as a Director of the Board of the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). She is a senior vice president at CBM – Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. with 35+ years of industry experience. She has audited and consulted with not-for-profit entities, provided business and personal financial planning services, and performed peer reviews for DC-area accounting and advisory firms.
Before joining CBM, Ms. Barnhard oversaw audit practice quality control for not-for-profit, government contractor and closely-held business clients at May & Barnhard, P.C., a Bethesda, MD-based tax and financial consulting firm she co-founded and which merged into CBM in November 2017.
She has consulted with not-for-profits on internal controls, financial reporting design and disclosures, fundraising contracts and accounting, unrelated business income tax and the allocation of joint costs of fundraising. She has made recommendations on improved cost reporting, budgeting concerns, IRS compliance issues, fringe benefit plans and lease vs. buying decisions. She has represented clients before the IRS.
Ms. Barnhard also has years of experience preparing income tax returns for individuals and not-for-profits. In addition to her financial planning work, she assists in divorce-related matters. She is a certified financial planner and provides portfolio review and investment counseling.
Prior to her 26 years at May & Barnhard, she worked as an experienced A&A manager at a large international accounting firm and as an internal auditor for the Washington Post Company.
Ms. Barnhard received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Northeastern University.
